Broward County considers its artists, as a collective, one of its treasured resources.
Within the last four years from 2007 through 2010, in the midst of a great recession, with business declining and inventories dwindling, the Creative sector, fueled by its artists has grown, both in employees and businesses. This has created a direct positive effect on the economics of Broward County as a whole. In support of this blossoming group of entrepreneurs, below is listed a number of tools and resources available to help continue this growth and development.

An artist-focused course of study designed to assist artists by cultivating and advancing their business skills. Presented on 4 Saturdays, AEI is offered as a series of 18 classes. AEI is led by a premier faculty composed of leading business practitioners and artists familiar with arts and culture from the South Florida region. In February 2008, the first of 37 professional visual and performing artists began moving into the now completed Sailboat Bend Artists Lofts. Artspace Projects, Inc., a Minneapolis-based not-for-profit real estate developer for the arts, contracted with Broward County for the development of these affordable, artist live/work spaces. All South Florida professional artists, residing in the five counties mentioned, are eligible to apply. Artists must have resided and worked in one of the participating five counties the year prior to the application deadline and must apply from the county of their residence.
