Marie Postle Stewart

Painting - Oil
36in X 66in

Mass Transit Division
A resident of Florida since 1964, Marie Postle Stewart painted in the plein-air tradition of the Impressionists, and depicted the somber mood of a landscape at a county park as a rainstorm approached. She captured the light and shadow effects of the approaching storm as if the landscape was bathed in moonlight. This painting is installed in a Conference room of the Mass Transit Administration Building.
"This is a late-afternoon scene from Matheson Hammock park in Miami, just before a rainstorm. The light was so eerie that a friend commented that it resembled moonlight; thus, the title."
