Michael Smith received a direct commission to selectively document Broward County. Choosing his subjects in a very personal way, the artist had the permission of many residents, to be included in this documentary project. Working with a large format camera and completing all the photographic processes with exacting detail, Smith has created a series of crisp black-and-white gelatin silver prints.

This series consists of: 58 prints with an overall size of 16" X 18"; 12 prints with an overall size of 16" X 28"; 20 prints with an overall size of 24" X 28". The series of photograph is installed at both the Northwest Branch Library and the North Region Family Success Center.

"The challenge always is to balance the allure of the subject matter with my own visual concerns and sense of abstraction."
