About Chip

Chip LaMarca and his wife EileenBroward County Commissioner Chip LaMarca

Chip LaMarca, a lifelong resident of Broward’s fourth district, has earned a reputation for being a citizens’ advocate and a respected voice for the taxpayers who he is honored to represent.

Chip is truly a great American success story. After attending Broward College and later Boston University, Chip returned to Broward County and followed in the footsteps of his late father, helping to bring jobs to Broward in the construction industry. After establishing himself as a knowledgeable and trusted manager and supervisor and after 20 years of experience in the construction industry, Chip opened LaMarca Construction in 2006. Chip married the former Eileen Dorrego in 1995 and the couple has been living in Lighthouse Point since their marriage.

Chip became active in public service in 2002, serving on many City of Lighthouse Point boards.  In 2005, Chip was elected to a seat on the Lighthouse Point City Commission after running a campaign based on integrity, public safety and good governance. In 2010, after serving the citizens of Lighthouse Point for two terms, Chip was elected to serve on the Broward County Board of County Commissioners.

Since his arrival on the Board of County Commissioners, he has strived to bring jobs and economic development to the County and at the same time hold the line on spending and keeping taxes low. He has the honor of representing Broward County on the Florida Association of Counties Board of Directors and Finance and Audit Committee and is co-chair of its Urban Caucus. In conjunction with the Florida Association of Counties, he completed the Certified County Commissioner training in 2011 and is currently enrolled in the Advanced County Commissioner Certification Program. He was named by the State of Florida Agriculture and Consumer Affairs Commissioner Adam Putnam to the Florida State Fair Authority Board. On a national level, he has been selected to serve on the National Association of Counties Community and Economic Steering Committee.

Locally, Chip serves on the Broward County Fire Rescue Council, and the Regional Emergency Medical Services Council that has spearheaded a campaign, “Take 5 to Stay Alive” to advocate against texting and driving. He co-chaired with Commissioner Lois Wexler the 911 Consolidated Communications Group Committee and he serves on the School Board’s Oversight Committee.

However, what Chip is most proud of is his work with the Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance and the Six Pillars Initiative where he is a Co-Chairman of the Steering Committee. Along with the County legislation he has supported, he strives to make Broward County the best place to live, work, raise a family and visit.
