$10 Million Allocated to Cities thorough the Broward Redevelopment Program

In an effort to spur job creation, eliminate blight, and improve infrastructure, the County Commission voted to disburse $10 million to help fund 11 projects in 7 cities. The Broward Redevelopment Program was created by the County Commission in April of this year. The Sun-Sentinel quoted me in a November 13, 2013 news article as saying "If you look at what the projects are trying to accomplish, I think they could truly benefit our county". The following are some of the projects being funded through the program.

Dania Beach: $1,128,143 for public parking at a development at East Dania Beach Boulevard and Gulfstream Road.

Fort Lauderdale: $1.5 million for street improvements at Northwest 13th Street between Northeast 4th Avenue and Northeast 9th Avenue.

Lauderhill: $278,250 for two new business developments at 1400 NW 40th Ave. and 2341 NW 40th Ave.

Miramar: $3 million for an amphitheater at Shirley Branca Park, redevelopment projects along Miramar Parkway and Southwest 29th Street, and roadway improvements in the Pembroke Road and State Road 7 area.

Oakland Park: $1,255,000 for vendor space at the Central Market on Northeast 38th Street and improvements to a parking lot at Prospect Road and Andrews Avenue.

Tamarac: $1.5 million for improvements in drainage, roadway, sidewalks and utilities to Tamarac Village on Northwest 57th Street between Northwest 94th Avenue and Pine Island Road.

West Park: $1,443,607 for street improvements on Northwest 56th Avenue and a business development at 1901 State Road 7.

Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport
The Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport is one of Broward County's largest economic engines. For many travelers our Airport will be their first and last impression of Broward County. As a result, it is important that the work environment for employees working at our airport meets high standards. I am proud to be a co-sponsor of a Resolution that will provide better working conditions for folks working at our airport. Those working conditions will ensure greater worker retention throughout the airport, provide break areas within all four terminals, provide a complaint hotline, and will move discussions between the County and private airport businesses forward regarding a voluntary increase in wages.

Paying Property Taxes Made Easy

Residents can save time, avoid long lines and reduce parking congestion and fees while making Property tax payments by using Broward County's drive-through kiosk, located in the parking lot of the Governmental Center Annex building, 115 S. Andrews Ave., in Fort Lauderdale. The kiosk will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on three different dates for this tax payment season: Nov. 26 and 27, 2013, and March 31, 2014. To access the kiosk, customers should enter the parking lot from the Brickell Avenue (west) side of the Governmental Center and follow the signs. Broward County staff wearing Broward County shirts and badges will be on hand to collect payments. In order for tax payments to be accepted at the kiosk, they must be: 1. Current Taxes (2013) 2. Must pay in full, 3. properly filled out check, and 4. Accompanied by original tax bill stub (which will be stamped "Received" by the collection agent). Payments will be processed on the day received. Residents can also go online to verify that the payment has been posted, and obtain a printed copy of their receipt by visiting Broward.County-Taxes.com.  Enter the property account number, view and print 2013 tax bill.

The Broward County Commission meets generally on Tuesdays at 10:00 a.m. in Room 422 of the Broward County Governmental Center, 115 S. Andrews Ave., Fort Lauderdale.
