I would like to encourage you to participate in county government by serving on boards, committees, commissions, task forces, agencies and authorities. Over 700 Broward residents serve on these boards today, sharing valuable knowledge and experience which help identify the needs of our Community.
I hope you will consider serving on one of the boards listed below.
ADVISORY BOARD FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH DISABILITIES. Must be a registered voter and dedicated to the advancement of the disabled. Meets every other month, third Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the Broward County Governmental Center, Room 302.
CHILDREN’S SERVICES BOARD. Focuses on the improvement of life for the children of Broward County and serve as an advocate for children’s services. Members shall be free of any conflict of interest incurred by being an employee of a nonprofit/profit agency receiving children’s services funding. Meets monthly, 3rd Friday, 9 a.m. at the Broward County Governmental Center Annex, Room A-337.
COMMISSION ON THE STATUS OF WOMEN. Must be a registered voter who lives in District 6. In respect to all matters pertaining to the status of women, shall be dedicated to identifying and resolving economic health, social, and all other issues concerning women’s lives through education and advocacy. Meets bi-Monthly, second Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at the Broward County Governmental Center, Room 302.
CONSUMER PROTECTION BOARD. Must be a registered voter. Enforce consumer protection safeguards; issue and enforce cease and desist orders; hold hearings, take testimony under oath in all matters relating to consumer protection; revoke or suspend occupational licenses. Meets every other month, third Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at the Broward County Governmental Center West, 1 North University Drive, Apple Pond Room, Plantation, FL 33324.
DIVERSITY ADVISORY COUNCIL. Identify, celebrate, and embrace the accomplishments of our diverse majority-minority community through increased education and communication and other community programs designed to promote ethnic and cultural understanding at all levels of community life in Broward County. Meets every other month, third Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the Broward County Governmental Center, Room 430.
EDUCATIONAL FACILITIES AUTHORITY. The Authority is constituted as public body, corporate and politic, to assist institutions for higher education in the construction, financing and refinancing of projects that will assist future generations of youth to achieve the highest levels of learning and development of their intellectual and mental capacities. Meets as needed, generally once or twice per year.
HEALTH AND SANITARY CONTROL BOARD. Advise the Board of County Commissioners and the Health Department director on pertinent issues relating to environmental health legislation and enforcement practices. Meets monthly, last Thursday at 9:30 a.m. at the Broward County Health Department, 780 SW 24th Street, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33315.
HUMAN RIGHTS BOARD. To encourage equality of treatment and prevent discrimination against any racial, religious, ethnic, or other majority group or its members. The Human Rights board is authorized to exercise general, advisory and quasi-judicial powers. Meets quarterly, second Monday at 1:00 p.m. February, May, August, November at the Broward County Governmental Center, Room A-337.
