On Election Day, November 6, you will be voting on several Florida Constitutional Amendments, five of which deal with Broward County property taxes, including Amendment 4. Broward County has created a new Amendment 4 website that explains the proposed amendment along with its potential adverse consequences.

These potential consequences include shifting a significant portion of the property tax burden from non-homesteaded property owners and businesses to homesteaded property owners, and/or the sudden and significant loss of local community programs and services that contribute to local quality of life. Veterans Services Helps Vietnam Veterans Assess Possible Agent Orange Exposure

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has recently implemented new procedures to assess physical injuries to Vietnam veterans and these important changes can help Broward County veterans who served in Southeast Asia.

Libraries, Comcast and Community Organizations Bridge the Digital Divide for Low-Income Families

Through a cooperative venture with Comcast, Broward County Public Schools and the Urban League, Broward County Libraries is helping close the digital divide for low-income families who have not had an opportunity to learn about computers or access the Internet.

The national Comcast program, Internet Essentials, has entered its second year, but this is the first year that Libraries is participating in the program locally.

“We are providing the digital literacy component of the program,” said Tara Zimmerman, grants officer for the Libraries. “It is crucial that children and families be literate in their use of the Internet so that they can make the most of its capabilities while also connecting safely.” The Broward Public Library Foundation coordinated Broward County Libraries’ involvement in this project.
