County Auditor’s Office Welcomes New Staff member
Anthony Shivazad Anthony Shivazad recently joined the
Couunty Auditor's office as a staff auditor in the Compliance Group. Shivazad is a graduate of the University of Florida where he received a bachelor’s and master’s of science degree in accounting. He is a certified public accountant and a member of Institute of Internal Auditors, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Farone Joins EAP as Senior Counselor
Joseph Farone The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) welcomed
Joseph Farone to its staff in December. Serving as a senior
counselor, Farone is a licensed clinical social worker and a qualified
substance abuse professional. Prior to joining the EAP staff, Farone worked
with the Federal Courts in Washington, D.C. and several non-profit programs
providing intensive in-home services for families. He is excited about
living in Florida and is looking forward to using his diverse set of skills
with the Broward County EAP.

Enterprise Technology Services has two new graduates on staff.
Ecaterina “Kathy” Suli graduated cum laude from Broward College on
December 19 with her bachelor’s degree in business management. Her daughter,
Andreea Flus, also graduated with her associate’s degree. When Suli came to
the United States from Romania in 1997, she spoke no English. While working
full time and raising her daughter, she taught herself English, which
allowed her to pursue her dream of a higher education.
Diane
Lipscomb also graduated from Broward College with an associate’s
degree. She will continue her studies in pursuit of a bachelor’s degree.

Annette Payne, billing controller for Port Everglades,
was selected for the United States Netball Team and represented the U.S. in
the Caribbean National Tournament in Trinidad and Tobago this past summer.
Last month the USA “Eagles” competed in a tri-series against Bermuda in
Delray Beach. This was an important series to win because it would move Team
USA up in international ranking and qualify for the World Tournament in
2014. With Payne playing the center position, the USA “Eagles” took the
Atlantic Cup Championship with a 57-35 series win.
Netball is played by 20 million registered players around the world, with
the U.S. currently ranked 17th out of more than 80 registered countries.
Similar to basketball, netball players can only catch and pass to advance
the ball and rules prohibit dribbling or carrying the ball.
Volunteer Brings Holiday Joy to Main Library Patrons and Staff
Ry Nielsen and his wall of gifts. The Main Library’s newest adult volunteer sees a blank wall as an invitation to create artwork. Ry Nielsen, Fort Lauderdale sculptor, curator and art teacher, took on the challenge of transforming the unadorned and unattractive 20-foot tall temporary construction barrier on the second floor atrium of the Main Library and transforming it into a holiday work of art.
“I saw the holiday display with its beautifully ornamented Christmas tree, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa displays with the depressing blank wall behind it,” said Nielsen. “The tree is so fabulous and I just wanted to explode the color outward.” Nielsen took plain gift boxes and wrapped them in reflective paper and attached the boxes to the wall. He started the project in early December.
Nielsen is the project director for the 2013 DBA (Doing Business As) Artist as Entrepreneur exhibit, which opens January 23 in the Main Library’s
gallery six.
