Community Update has a brand new look and feel! Each month the updated newsletter will showcase the exciting projects, programs and services that are uniquely available to you as a Broward County resident. We look forward to sharing the many ways that Broward County serves you and our community. You will notice that we’ve made it easier to read our top stories and to select from a variety of headlines if you’d like to explore them in greater depth. Also, we hope that you will review our newest feature, Upcoming Events Calendar, to take advantage of everything Broward County offers. Broward County Commission Meetings Resume After Summer Recess
The Broward County Commission has resumed its regular Tuesday, 10 a.m. meeting schedule. Commission meetings take place at the Broward County Governmental Center, 115 S. Andrews Ave., Room 422, in Fort Lauderdale. Public hearings are held the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 2 p.m. The 2014 Budget Public Hearings will be held on Tuesday, September 10 and Tuesday, September 24, at 5:01 p.m. You can view Commission meetings and the two budget public hearings on participating cable channels and online at broward.org, click VIDEO CENTRAL. NEW! Mobile Website and App Designed to Expand Online Service Options
Broward County recently launched a mobile friendly version of the County's website along with a new app for Android devices, both providing quicker, easier access to County programs and services on smartphones and other devices. The app can be downloaded for free from the Google Play Store. Users of Apple devices are encouraged to bookmark the mobile website, broward.org/mobile. More...

Unemployed, underemployed or ready for something more rewarding and challenging? Whether you’re looking for your first job, a new career or just want to get back to work, Broward County Libraries can help make your job search easier. In addition to great books, DVDs, music and downloadable materials, Broward County Libraries offers free public-use computers and wireless Internet access, free computer classes, educational information/assistance, e-government resources, job coaching and résumé assistance online. County's Value Adjustment Board Accepting Property Tax Petitions Through September 18
Broward County property taxpayers who may want to appeal the assessment of their property's value, exemptions and classification still have time left to file for a petition with the County's Value Adjustment Board. The deadline to file a timely petition is Wednesday, September 18. Please note, there is a $15 nonrefundable fee for filing a petition. More...

Libraries Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month and Viva Florida 500
This year, Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15 - October 15) takes on special meaning for Floridians. It was 500 years ago that Juan Ponce de Leon first explored the Sunshine State, bringing with him Hispanic culture, language and traditions that continue to enrich us all. Statewide, communities and organizations are also celebrating Viva Florida 500, the anniversary of this discovery and the commemoration of Florida's rich history.
