The Broward County 2013 Point-in-Time Count, conducted in a 24-hour time period on January 24-25, identified that 2,810 individuals and families were homeless according to the federal definition of homelessness: they were living in places not meant for human habitation, emergency shelters or transitional housing programs. Two airlines at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) are expanding flights abroad. JetBlue Airways begins service on June 13 to Medellin, Colombia; San Jose, Costa Rica on June 27; and Lima, Peru, on November 21. Norwegian Air Shuttle offers new service to Copenhagen twice a week starting November 29 and begins twice weekly flights to Stockholm on December 1. The 2013 Broward County Arts
Teacher of the Year application deadline is fast approaching. Broward
County's public, private and charter school principals and teachers are
invited to nominate arts teachers for this Honor of Excellence in
four categories this year: dance, music, theater and visual arts. There will
be one award in each of the categories. The application deadline is May 31,
2013.

May is Air Quality Awareness Month and the Broward County Pollution Prevention, Remediation and Air Quality Division, in collaboration with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, state and local air quality programs, and community partners, is sponsoring a series of educational events and exhibits to increase awareness about important air quality issues.
