Development Assistance Program
Broward County > Housing > Development Assistance Program

This Development Assistance Program is available to developers only.  However, due to no state funding, this program has been suspended indefinitely.

Competitive Bid Selection Process

Broward County, through the administration of the State Housing Initiatives Partnership (SHIP) Program*, will make funds available through a separate competitive bid process. Notices announcing the County's request for proposal, letter of interest or quotes (RFP/RLI/RFQ) will be advertised in a newspaper of general circulation. The notice will state the application procedures and application deadline.

The program provides direct financial assistance to eligible sponsors for acquisitions including purchase of land with or without structures, new development of eligible owner-occupied housing, and to eligible prospective home buyers for purchase assistance funds to buy a home in conjunction with the above.

The eligible developer is responsible for acquisition and development costs, subsequent reimbursement by the County at the time of closing, and then passing through a direct benefit via the reduction in sales price of the eligible unit to the home buyer. This is achieved through the builder/developer subtracting the reduction or waiver therein of any impact fees or any other administrative fees off the top of the sales price.

(*) The purpose of the SHIP Program is to assist in meeting specific housing needs of very-low, low and moderate income households, to expand the production and preservation of affordable housing.
