NATURE OF WORK
This is supervisory and administrative work in traffic signal field operations.
Work involves planning and directing the work of subordinate personnel engaged in the fabrication, installation, maintenance, and repair of traffic signal systems and devices. Supervision is exercised over all assigned personnel through subordinate supervisors. Work is reviewed through conferences and reports to assure conformance with desired results.
ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS
Plans and directs the work of personnel engaged in the fabrication, installation, maintenance and repair of various types of traffic signal systems.
Directs the installation of control boxes, controllers, traffic signals, relays and other electrically powered traffic control devices.
Directs the operation of a variety of electrical testing equipment.
Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Thorough knowledge of the standard practices, methods, tools and equipment used in the fabrication, installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical and electronic traffic control or similar devices.
Thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of this type of work.
Thorough knowledge of the electrical code.
Ability to plan, schedule and direct the work of subordinates.
Ability to prepare clear and concise oral and written reports.
Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of Broward County's Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability, political affiliation or sexual orientation.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Graduation from high school, supplemented by course work in electricity and electronics; six (6) years experience in journey level installation of traffic signals or similar devices; a minimum of four (4) years experience in supervising field personnel; or any equivalent combination of relevant training and experience.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENT
Possession of a valid Florida Class B Commercial Driver's License with air brake endorsement must be obtained within six (6) months of appointment.
