Valuable Information Shared at Accessibility Symposium
Broward County’s Office of Intergovernmental Affairs and Professional Standards recently hosted more than 250 guests at the County’s 2012 Americans with Disability Act (ADA) Accessibility Symposium. The event was designed for architects, engineers, building code officials, contractors, ADA administrators and coordinators, interior designers and others working in a business or industry impacted by the ADA. Topics included:
- The 1991 Accessibility Standards and the changes brought about by the 2010 Department of Justice regulations
- Public Right of Ways in Florida and proposed federal regulations
- Florida Accessibility Code requirements and the Fair Housing Guidelines
- Built environment assessment tool and ADA barrier removal checklist

The ADA team coordinates the efforts of Broward County Government to implement and comply with the Title II provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA). The ADA team serves as a technical advisor to all County departments, divisions and offices on the ADA and other disability related laws and issues, serves as staff liaison to the Advisory Board for Individuals with Disabilities (ABID), and monitors the County's ADA Compliance.
