Broward County > Intergovernmental > Professional Standards > Sterling – A Model for Performance Excellence
Story 1
Sterling is Broward County’s official business model for performance excellence, endorsed and approved by the Board of County Commissioners. The Sterling Criteria provide a framework and an assessment tool for understanding organizational strengths and opportunities for improvement.
The Florida Sterling Criteria for Performance Excellence is based on the National Malcolm Baldrige Award Criteria. These are the research-based best practices of high performing organizations.
Sterling is a business philosophy that starts with a customer focus and recognizes that employees are at the heart of a successful organization. An organization that is truly Sterling prioritizes the following:
- Leadership
-how senior leaders guide the organization
- Strategic Planning
-how the organization develops strategic objectives and action plans
- Customer Focus
-how we engage customers for long-term marketplace success
- Measurement, Analysis and Knowledge Management
-how the organization uses information to improve performance
- Workforce Development
-how employees are engaged, developed and recognized
Broward County government is committed to “Our Best. Nothing Less.” and recognizes/rewards employees at all levels who share that commitment. Through a variety of methods, employees have opportunities to be recognized by management as well as co-workers, for being part of the team and making a difference.
Broward County’s Sterling initiative is administered by the Office of Intergovernmental Affairs and Professional Standards. For more information, call 954-357-7315, or visit the Florida Sterling Council Web site.
