The Friends of Broward County Libraries is an "umbrella" organization of 29 local chapters. The Friends have been instrumental in the growth of the library system since 1975. The umbrella group brings together the leaders of local Friends groups at meetings at the county, state and federal level and helps to sustain county, state and federal funding for the library system.

Monthly meetings of the umbrella group provide opportunities for Friends to share successful ideas and plan for the future. Advocacy efforts of board members include participation in Library Days in Tallahassee and trips to Washington while Congress is in session. The Executive Board is comprised of individuals from local chapters and members at large help to guide and support the Friends. They are available as a resource to the local chapters. Membership dues for the systemwide Friends of Broward County Libraries is $10 annually.
