The Business area of the Reference Section, located on the fifth floor of the Broward County Main Library, houses a collection of reference books on many topics relating to business. Circulating books on these subjects are located on the fourth floor of the Broward County Main Library.

Among the holdings of the Reference Section are company directories, demographic and statistical publications from commercial and governmental sources, investment newsletters, and online business databases.

Types of Information

Career and Employment Information
The Reference Section has a Career and Job Information area that includes publications that aid in choosing careers and finding job leads. Materials offering information on working conditions, education and training requirements, starting salaries, employment trends, and résumé writing are also available. One-hour appointments for assistance in using the materials may be scheduled with a librarian.

Finance and Investing
In addition to Value Line Investment Survey and Morningstar Mutual Funds, a collection of business and investment newsletters, including Dick Davis Digest, Dines Letters, and Dow Theory Letter, is available in the Reference Section. Online investment information is available through the Business and Company Resource Center database.

International Trade Materials
The Reference Section provides a variety of import and export information, including a subscription to USA Trade Online, an online international trade database from the Foreign Trade Division of the U.S. Census Bureau. This is available in its entirety only at the Reference Section of the Broward County Main Library. Ask a librarian to assist you in logging on.

(Circulating copies of some of the print sources may be found on the fourth floor of the Main Library.) Computer resources include the Small Business Resource Center database.

In addition, a wide variety of seminars on special business topics and issues are held each month and free one-on-one counseling for entrepreneurs is provided by appointment by two local agencies: Broward Service Corps of Retired Executives) (Broward SCORE) and the Florida Small Business Development Center in Broward. To make an appointment, visit their websites at www.browardscore.org or http://sbdcbroward.org.

Tax information from governmental and commercial sources is also available on the fifth floor of the Main Library. Print sources include tax laws, regulations, forms, and publications, and U.S. Tax Court decisions. In addition to print sources, trained AARP volunteers provide one-on-one tax assistance for basic tax returns, in the Main Library’s Cybrary, on the seventh floor, between February and April of each year.
