1998 WINNER

#1
Johnson, Linda K.
Twenty-six letters: selected letters of Lewis Carroll.
Pompano Beach: A2Z Press, 1998.
[26 envelopes, 26 letters];
13 x 17 x 7.5 cm.
[The 26 pages of the book are envelopes, one for each letter of the alphabet with each envelope containing a Lewis Carroll letter to a friend. Inspired by Lewis Carroll’s ability to play with words, the title and form ... is itself a play on words, using both definitions of the word “letters” — those of the alphabet and letters as a means of correspondence between friends. The alphabet is represented by a series of 26 character illustrations based on the menagerie of characters found in Lewis Carroll’s stories and verses. These illustrations are intended to be a rebus alphabet... Colophon: This book was designed, printed and handbound by Linda K. Johnson of Pompano Beach, Fl. The illustrations are based on the characters from the stories of Lewis Carroll [and were copied by the artist Yvonne Rietschoten].
The text of the letters was set in Bernhard Modern with initial capitals in Gill Sans Bold. The book was printed on HP Laserjet. The envelopes are International Paper’s Mashi, with liners of natural gold marble. The letters are printed on Fabriano Ingres Crema. This book is handbound using a piano hinge bind. The text of the letters was written by C.L. Dodgson also know as Lewis Carroll. In box tied with ribbon. Edition of 10].
