Shape of New Courthouse Building Begins to Emerge
Work on the new Broward County Courthouse is moving along, and if you drive or walk by the construction site, it’s exciting to see that the building is beginning to take shape as the underlying 20-story structure begins to rise from the ground! View Photos
As often occurs with a construction project of this size and scope, it was recently determined that certain design elements of the mechanical and electrical system required refinement. Approximately 25 percent of the construction drawings were modified, impacting the heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, plumbing, fire protection systems and architectural structure. Change orders in the amount of $8.7 million have been approved, and an additional 91 days has been added to the project timeline. More...
1,000-Car Broward County Judicial Courthouse Parking Garage
Demolition of accessory buildings around the historic Coca-Cola building and general site clearing has been completed. On-and off-site utility work is underway and the installation of a new sewer line along Andrews Avenue is ninety percent complete.
During on-site excavation for the installation of underground FPL conduits, five previously unidentified underground fuel storage tanks were discovered. Tanks and contaminated soils have been removed and the developer, The Stiles Corporation, is working with the County's Pollution, Prevention, Remediation and Air Quality Division to obtain a dewatering permit to construct the elevator pits below groundwater level. Underpinning of the Coca-Cola Building is underway to stabilize that building during construction.
The Notice to Proceed with construction will be issued on March 25, 2013. Remediation of the underground fuel storage tanks and the associated contaminated soils has been expeditiously accomplished but has had a minor impact on the project schedule. The estimated completion date is spring 2014.

Midrise Building
The Midrise building project will provide consolidation of functions within the County-owned Midrise from leased spaces in order to achieve cost savings and operational efficiencies. The project scope of work includes several sub-projects that include architectural and engineering upgrades and the consolidation of office space to reduce rental cost.
The Public Defender staff and State Attorney staff will be relocated from leased space to the third and fourth floors respectively. The first and second floors of the Midrise are being reconfigured for Broward Sheriff's Office and Clerk of the Courts occupancy.
