"Best of Broward" Highlights County Services

Each month, a Broward County Commission meeting will open with the “Best of Broward,” a brief presentation intended to provide viewers with a greater understanding of various programs and services offered by County government.


Land Preservation

Slide 1 of presentation.One of the best attractions that Broward County has to offer is our natural areas that have been preserved for parks, and the people that use them for recreation, wildlife observation or just to get away for a few hours. 

 


Broward Housing Council

HouseThe Broward Housing Council was created by the Broward County Charter and serves in an advisory capacity to the Broward County Commission. The Council is charged with facilitating coordination between the County, municipalities, the business community and not-for-profit groups to address housing issues including, affordable housing, workforce housing and homelessness.


Libraries Division 

Broward County Libraries provide a virtual library that grows in popularity as our culture increasingly makes use of computers, laptops, tablets and mobile phones for just about everything. The website receives 700,000 electronic visitors a month, where library card holders can renew books online, download e-books and audio books and have instant access to a variety of journals.


West Lake Park Wetland Mitigation

It is the largest remaining mangrove ecosystem in a highly urban coastal zone that stretches from Miami to West Palm Beach. Broward County’s Parks and Recreation Division, Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and environmental agencies joined forces to mitigate necessary impacts to roughly 15 acres of low-grade wetlands that are on airport property.

Broward County TransitBroward County Transit is "moving to the future" and using creative strategies to meet future transit needs of the community including advancing regional travel by appealing to new and existing commuters, promoting energy efficiency, connecting with passengers through smart phones and other technology, and providing for rider safety, comfort and convenience.


"Best of Broward" Showcases Veterans Services

Broward County Veterans Services Section provides free advocacy and claims assistance services to Broward County's nearly 127,000 veterans and their families. All Veterans Services Officers are veterans themselves, trained and certified to assist other veterans.


Traffic Engineering Gives Drivers the Green Light

Green means "go" and the going is not only good - it's getting even better in Broward County thanks to Traffic Engineering Division’s Green Lights Program which is synchronizing traffic signals along major corridors in the County.


Convention & Visitors Bureau Shows Talent through Innovative Marketing

The Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau is responsible for promoting travel to Broward County, which had 10.8 million visitors with an economic impact of more than $8 billion.
