Do you love the outdoors? Do you love to explore the plants and animals of Florida? Are you 13 to 17 years of age? Well, the Broward County Parks and Recreation Division has a unique opportunity for you to realize your passion for nature.
The Apprentice Naturalist Program will begin on Saturday, February 8, 2014, and run through Saturday, June 21, 2014. Participants will explore the different natural areas of northern Broward County twice a month, for a total of 10 classroom/interactive experiences. Prospective Apprentice Naturalists will learn about the fields of biology, ecology, meteorology, environmental science, habitat restoration, and many others. The program schedule is as follows:
For ages 13-17. Round-trip transportation will be provided from Quiet Waters Park (401 S. Powerline Rd., Deerfield Beach 33442) to all natural areas. Cost of the program is $170/person, which includes admission to all parks.
There is a minimum of four participants and a maximum of 15.
What To Wear
We will be outside for the entire time, so boots or sturdy shoes and a hat are recommended. It is also a good idea to bring sunscreen and insect repellent.
A small bag or backpack for carrying supplies, a notebook and writing utensils, gloves, binoculars, a compass, any Florida nature books you might have, snacks and or lunch, and a water bottle are recommended. We will supply plenty of cold water for students to fill up their water bottles.
