Transportation Planning

Transportation planning plays a critical role in our region’s vision for the future. As the population continues to grow (recently surpassing 1.8 million) and new businesses relocate here, we have been working with our local and regional partners to shift to a multimodal frame of mind. Mobility means more than just moving automobiles and we are committed to expanding mobility options for everyone through improvements and additions to transit as well as bicycle, pedestrian and greenway networks. We are currently implementing and expanding our Complete Streets program – addressing a full range of mobility options, including greenways, sidewalks, bicycle networks and transit. In addition, we are involved with our partners in a number of studies and planning efforts for strategic corridors in the county, including State Road 7, Oakland Park Boulevard, University Drive, Broward Boulevard and others.

To help shape the future, we are active on a number of transportation-related advisory boards, including the Broward County Bicycling and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC), Complete Streets Technical Advisory Committee (TAC), the Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) Technical Coordinating Committee (TCC) and the Corridor Management Entity (CME), among others. Another big undertaking on the horizon is an overhaul of the Transportation Element of the Comprehensive Plan. We will be integrating the element with other elements of the Comprehensive Plan such as Land Use and Climate Change to create a plan that reflects our commitment to multimodal transportation networks and providing transportation choices to residents and visitors alike.
