Introduction:
The C3 Challenge is an educational competition intended to engage students, teachers, school administrators, staff, and parents in practical actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions at school and at home. Through improved energy efficiency, reduced consumption increased recycling and changes in transportation behaviors, participants will learn how simple actions, taken together, can create a climate of change. All educational activities are aligned with the Next Generation Sunshine State Standards. The competition is open to all Broward County public, charter, and private schools.
The school with the highest score WINS!!! The score is determined by the the combination of the highest percentage of participating classroom teachers, a share your story submittal, and an on-site evaluation.
The winning school from elementary, middle, and high will be announced in March 2013.
The winning school from elementary, middle, and high will receive:
- C3 Winning banner for school
- Sustainable School Plaque
- C3 E-Certificates
- Climate Change Collection library (books, documentaries, movies)
- Recognition from the Broward County Board of County Commissioners
- Broward Naturescape prize
- Broward Solid Waste and Recycling Services prize
Goals of the C3 Challenge:
- Educate students about climate change and actions to reduce their carbon footprint
- Reduce greenhouse gas emissions in schools and within the community
- Encourage student leadership and empowerment
- Foster a community of teachers/students working together to engage the community to reduce their carbon footprint and foster a new generation of environmental advocates.
Step 1: Kickoff the C3 Challenge....School Registration and Team Building
Step 2: Teacher Pledge Drive
- Teacher's submit thier online Teacher Pledge by February 8, 2013, indicating their commitment to educate students about actions to reduce their carbon footprint.

Each school's Climate LEEDer must submit a "Share Your Story" article by
February 15, 2013 to
airoutreach@broward.org to be eligible.
*Disclaimer: Please keep in mind the contest rules have changed since last year. We are now calculating the highest overall score, which includes the percentage of classroom teachers participating, a share your story submittal, and an on-site evaluation.
