Broward County is a diverse, urban community with green space, parks and beautiful "Blue Wave" beaches. The County's 1,220 square miles consists of 31 municipalities, including Dania Beach, Hollywood, Parkland, Pompano Beach, Sunrise and Wilton Manors, the largest of which is county seat Fort Lauderdale. Broward is the nation's eighteenth largest county and is home to nearly 1.8 million people. It is the center of the Miami-Fort Lauderdale-Pompano Beach metropolitan statistical area which includes Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties and over 5 million residents.

The median age in Broward County is 40.7 as of 2010. The population under 15 is estimated at 319,534 and the population 75 years and olderis estimated at 124,071.  As indicated by the 2010 Census redistricting data, Broward County is a minority-majority county. While the non-Hispanic Black population still remains the largest minority group at 26.7 percent, it is now closely followed by the Hispanic population at 25.1 percent. The 2010 Census estimates 686,047 households and 434,488 families in Broward County. The average household size is 2.52 and the average family size is 3.14.
