The County's 1,220 square miles consists of 31 municipalities, including Dania Beach, Hollywood, Parkland, Pompano Beach, Sunrise and Wilton Manors, the largest of which is county seat Fort Lauderdale. Broward is the nation's eighteenth largest county and is home to nearly 1.8 million people. It is the center of the Miami-Fort Lauderdale-Pompano Beach metropolitan statistical area which includes Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties and over 5 million residents.

The area features world-famous dining, theater, nightlife, and shopping as well as golf, deep sea fishing, boating, and an abundance of other recreational activities. With South Florida's year-round warm climate, there are unlimited opportunities for fun in the sun on the beach or in the park. Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) is the sixth largest and largest fully accredited K-12 and adult school system in the country.  

Demographics

The population under 15 is estimated at 319,534 and the population 75 years and olderis estimated at 124,071.  As indicated by the 2010 Census redistricting data, Broward County is a minority-majority county. While the non-Hispanic Black population still remains the largest minority group at 26.7 percent, it is now closely followed by the Hispanic population at 25.1 percent. The 2010 Census estimates 686,047 households and 434,488 families in Broward County. The average household size is 2.52 and the average family size is 3.14. With an average year-round temperature of 77 degrees, Broward County has a tropical climate that is a choice destination for over 10 million visitors every year. The Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention and Visitors Bureau, created by the Broward County Board of County Commissioners in 1987, works to promote the Greater Fort Lauderdale area as a premier leisure and meeting destination. In 2010, visitor expenditures totaled $8.69 billion and included 2.4 million international tourists. Broward County boasts over 4,000 restaurants, 580 tennis courts, over 100 nightclubs, 63 golf courses, 16 museums, 12 major malls, 6 casinos and a host of other amenities

The Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) and North Perry Airport (HWO) form Broward County's diverse and dynamic airport system serving the needs of over 22 million passengers annually.

Port Everglades is one of the most diverse seaports in the United States and is one of the busiest cruiseports in the world.

Broward County Transit provides bus service to 410 square miles within the County and also extends into Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties with the tri-county Route 18. Broward B-Cycle is a new bike sharing system that connects to BCT and helps reduce local traffic.
