Two Years Later: The Impact of Stimulus Funding in Broward County
As we pass the second anniversary of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA), Broward County is observing the milestone by taking a look at what the stimulus package has meant to us. Countywide, almost $700 million in grants was awarded to numerous recipients, including the School Board, local universities, municipalities, and Broward County government.
In their role as the vital safety net for our residents, the Broward County Human Services Department led the way by utilizing stimulus dollars to help those most impacted by the recession. In addition, large infrastructure projects are underway at the Airport and Port Everglades, as well as within the Transit and Housing Divisions, and numerous divisions stepped up to collaboratively develop a “greener” Broward County.
