Revenue Collection, part of the Records, Taxes and Treasury Division, is responsible for the collection of ad valorem taxes and other taxes set at the local level, including those by Special Levying Districts, State Agencies, and County Commissions. Revenue Collection also acts as an agent of several state departments, including the Department of Revenue, the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
For the Taxing Authorities, Revenue Collection bills and collects real and personal property taxes. The amount of the tax is based on the assessed value of the property and the millage rate, which is set by various taxing authorities.
As an agent of the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, Revenue Collection issues state motor vehicle licenses plates and parking placards and processes applications for titles on automobiles, trucks, mobile homes, and boats.
Revenue Collection's Tourist Development Tax Section is responsible for the administration, collection, audit and enforcement of the Tourist Development Tax on transient rental accommodations. Transient rental accommodations are defined as hotels, apartment hotels, resort motels, rooming houses, mobile home parks, single family dwellings, beach houses, cottages, condominiums or any other sleeping accommodations rented for a period of six months or less.
In addition, Revenue Collection also sells Hunting and Fishing Licenses, serves the County as its agent for the administration and collection of Local Business Taxes, and is also responsible for collecting legal assistance fees owed to the County, and delinquent debts owed to Broward County divisions.
